Apptentive Gives Back and Gives Thanks

Alexandria Odekirk  //  November 25, 2020  //  3 min read

Thanksgiving has always been a very special holiday for Apptentive. Our team loves getting together with delicious food and good company. Since that’s not exactly possible with COVID, Apptentive pivoted internally and found different ways to bring similar joy and connection to our teammates. This year, we dubbed our Thanksgiving event “Apptentive Gives Back and Gives Thanks” – a way to come together through different ways during the entire month of November and beyond.

Last year, we volunteered at Food Lifeline, an organization that helps distribute food to Washington-based food banks and helped create more than 15,000 meals. Food Lifeline rescues millions of pounds of nutritious food from farmers, manufacturers, grocery stores, restaurants, and retailers that would otherwise go to waste, and then they distribute it to more than 300 food banks, shelters, and meal programs throughout Western Washington. It’s important for us to give back to our community, and we are thankful for Food Lifeline’s daily dedication to eradicating hunger.

Even though we can’t come together and physically volunteer this year, we’ve created a virtual food drive for Food Lifeline through GoFundMe. To date, we have raised over $1,450!

If you’d like to join our virtual food drive for Food Lifeline, please donate here.

We are also encouraging our teammates to think of different ways they can give back safely while we are at home, either through virtual volunteering or donating to their own cause.

For Team Apptentive, Slack has become more essential to how we work and relate to each other. This month, we created two new channels to bring us closer together for the holiday season! Our #grateful channel focuses on sharing with the company what we are grateful for each day. It’s amazing seeing a fellow teammate share something they are grateful for and the support that rallies behind each post from other teammates. The second channel is our #recipe-swap channel. Holiday cookbook, anyone? We love celebrating our teammates, and what better way is there than to collect all of our favorite holiday recipes and create our first-ever cookbook! We are definitely drooling over here.

To put a nice little cap on our November events, we all virtually gathered together the Friday before Thanksgiving for a toast, meal, and an ode to holiday traditions in the form of a small video. In the video, we interviewed a few of our teammates and learned about the various ways they spend the holidays. Our goal was to bring us closer together with a few laughs, heartfelt moments, and new shared memories – even while apart.

While we can’t be together in person this year, we are truly grateful for the time we get to spend with all of our teammates. Cheers to 2020, and hopefully, an in-person celebration in 2021!
