Making Money in Games – Panel on 4/17/12
For those of you in the Seattle area, come join a great group of game industry professionals to discuss the latest thinking and strategies for Making Money (details here).
I’ll be moderating a panel consisting of Jeff Pobst, Jordan Weisman and Ryan Morel. I’m looking forward to an excellent conversation about the ways to diversify revenue streams, how to ensure that you’re thinking about building your business from the start and the latest insights into what’s working (and what’s not).
We’ve got a number of interesting questions we’ll try to address in our conversation, but feel free to let me know in the comments if you have specific questions you’d like us to address in order to get the most out of it. Here’s what I’ve got on the list so far:
- Are subscription models dead?
- Do you have to build cross-platform games going forward?
- What do app stores mean for the business and how are they changing it?
- Is HTML5 ready for primetime?
- How do you incorporate advertising and evaluate its appropriateness?
- How do “walled-garden” environments (like XBLA/PSN) compare to open (Android) or in-between (Apple) options?
- What about mobile – what’s different, what’s the same, what’s coming?
- Microtransactions – how do they fit?
- Do you need a virtual currency and what are the options?
- How do we evaluate the digital distribution channels?
- What do alternative funding methods mean for the industry; is Kickstarter a viable option for everyone?
- How do you get your customers?
Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday and again, share your questions and ideas in the comments!
