Read on to learn a bit about our newest hires!
Barry Li, Software Engineer
Barry got his first paid programming gig in the Microsoft game studio after receiving a degree in computer graphics. He joined Apptentive’s Client Team to help take the Android SDK up another notch. One of the greatest thrills of Barry’s career was the honor of being included in Time Magazine’s “Top 50 Android Apps of 2014.” In recent years, Barry has chosen to continue living in the Android universe, in the name of open source freedom. His hobbies includes aviation and fixing things around his house.
Byron McMullen, Software Engineer
Byron grew up an hour south of Seattle on Lake Tapps where he picked up web development as a hobby in the late ’90s. He later attended the University of Washington where he majored both in Informatics and Economics. A passion for building great user experiences has driven his development focus, and now lead to working with team Apptentive. Byron likes video games, roleplaying games, snow skiing, water sports, and pub food.
Jake Barnett, Associate Engineer
Musician, skier, coder, Jake splits his time evenly between hacking, going to music festivals, and day-dreaming about the slopes. Originally from Lake Tahoe, he studied environmental science at the University of Oregon before moving to Seattle. Jake plans on helping Apptentive go to exciting new places with his knowledge of web technologies.
John Fearnside, Software Engineer
Growing up in a house once known as Cabbage Hall amid the tiny hamlet of Fishers, NY, John was enticed to come to Seattle for an interview at the behest of a friend. One look at Mt. Rainier convinced him to abandon the so-called “mountains” of the East and relocate to the Pacific Northwest. John has a degree in computer science and engineering from the “Diploma Mill on the Charles” and joined Apptentive’s platform team to grow out our API backend. He can frequently be found skiing and watching television in his free time.
Luna Alvarez, Associate Engineer
A Southern California native and member of Women Who Code, Luna relocated to Seattle in January of 2013 with her pug, Olive. She spends her days romping at the dog park, reading the latest publications on emerging technology, and watching Adventure Time. She is passionate about backend technology and loves contributing to Apptentive.
Stuart Owen Axelbrooke, Software Engineer
One of Apptentive’s Senior Engineers, Stuart is an avid machine learning and data science practitioner who finds patterns in data. A Seattle native, he enjoys climbing, photography, and thinking about elegant representations for cluster computing.
Ashley Sefferman, Head of Content
(That’s me!) Ashley grew up in sun-soaked Arizona and is still getting used to the Seattle rain. A startup veteran and analytics junkie, she is obsessed with data-driven storytelling, visual design, and the ways people consume digital content. Prior to joining Apptentive, Ashley worked as a marketing and content director for BigDoor, Moz, and Deal Co-op, a 2010 TechStars Seattle company. When not in front of a computer, she can be found mentoring software startups, crossfitting, and catering to her rescue dog’s every request.
Marissa Smith, PR & Communications
A Detroit native, Marissa began her career at Fathead where her love of Communications blossomed. The intrigue of startup life and curiosity about the technology industry spurred her decision to pack up and move to Seattle to join Apptentive, and she hasn’t looked back since. While not writing press releases and pitching reporters, Marissa spends her time daydreaming of Paris and enjoying the perks of living in the Pacific Northwest.
