10 Games to Play on the Smart Screen World of Android Wear

Guest Blogger  //  February 26, 2015  //  3 min read

Many of us have already seen a smart watch and have heard of some of the amazing things it can do. But did you ever think that such a device can handle games?

If you’re new to the smart screen world of Android Wear, you might be surprised at what’s in store for gaming. The Android Wear (Google’s version of the Android operating system for smart watches and other wearables) is new, so there are a limited number of games available. The following ten, however, are all good fun to play on the small screen – proving that size truly doesn’t matter!

1. Castle Stormer

Castle Stormer for Android Wear

In this Android Wear game, you control a knight who must dodge enemies while you are running up the side of a castle. There is a bubble which offers the knight some protection. There are crows, snakes and some thorny patches to avoid along the way. You control the knight with a swipe action.

2. Reversi

In Reversi, you need to take turns with either the computer or another player in placing colored disks onto the board. The aim is to surround your opponent’s disk and remove it from the game.

3. Video Poker – with tiny cards!

A quick Android Wear game of five card poker playing against the computer. The game play is straightforward – you can adjust your bet, but little else. The cards are miniature versions of a normal deck of cards, which can make it a little hard to read them properly.

4. TetroCrate

TetroCrate for Android Wear

Basically a 3D version of Tetris. Rearrange the blocks as they fall into the correct space, matching the colours to remove them from the screen. You will need to swipe and rotate using your finger, on such a small screen this can be a challenge. However the game is a lot of fun.

5. Wear Orbits

A challenging and addictive game, and definitely one to try. You will almost certainly find that you play repetitively, trying to beat your high score. The game centers on a planet which is about to be knocked out of orbit. Your mission is to help it jump orbit by swiping the screen. You can only jump into a clear orbit, and at times this may seem impossible!

6. Zombie Bomb

The mission is simple. You need to defend a castle from the zombies. You are able to fly a helicopter, armed with weapons. Using it, you can destroy the many zombies attacking the castle. It has impressive graphics and a good range of colours.

7. Wear Hopper

WearHopper for Android Wear

In contrast to the majority of high speed chase games, you are not driving the car in this Android Wear game. In fact, you find yourself standing on top of the car. Your mission is to jump from car to car and get as far as you can. There is plenty of destruction along the way to accompany the thrill of the high speed chase. The graphics are actually very good, regardless of the small screen size.

8. Jetman freestyle

A classic survival game. You play as Jetman flying between dangerous jutting-out rocks, avoiding the flying objects and debris. Another game that will have you hooked, just wanting to beat your previous high score.

9. Path Finder

A simple but fun and very addictive Android Wear game. You play as a single red dot on the screen, guided by your finger. You must make the red dot travel along the twisting, turning path. Leave the path and it’s game over.

10. Skyscraper Jumper

This is actually a running and jumping game. Players run constantly, tapping the screen to jump between towers. Timing is crucial – get it wrong, and it’s a long way to fall! This game is also very addictive as you attempt to see how far you can go and how long you can last.

It must be remembered that the smart watch is a new device. Some developers have been very quick to react and produce the games above. There is no doubt there will be more games coming onto the Android Wear market shortly, quite possibly covering a huge range of gaming experiences.
